‘Tis the Season….for colds, coughs, and fevers 🙁
Here are two natural remedies you can prepare and keep on hand for the season. The elderberry syrup can be taken preventatively everyday as an immune-boosting tonic. The decongestant/expectorant is strong tasting, but very effective. Here’s to your health 🙂
#1 Bring 2 cups of purified water to a boil in a stainless-steel pot.
#2 Turn off the burner and add in 1 cup of dried elderberries. Cover the pot and steep the berries for 30 minutes.
#3 Drain the elderberry “tea” liquid into another pot. Push the berries with the back of a wooden spoon to extract all of the liquid.
#4 Add 1/4 cup of raw honey into the liquid and stir. Transfer the syrup into a clean, glass jar.
*Store the syrup in the fridge for up to six months!! Take 1 tablespoon daily as a tonic.
#1 Bring 1/4 cup of fresh lemon juice and 1/4 cup of raw apple cider vinegar to a gentle simmer in a stainless steel pot.
#2 Stir in 2 to 3 tablespoons of raw honey and 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper and powdered ginger. [I was out of cayenne pepper and used chipotle chili pepper instead.]
#3 Transfer the liquid into a clean glass jar. This remedy can be stored on the countertop.
#4 Shake well before drinking. Take 1 to 2 tablespoons daily as needed.
